Skype Emoticons and Mojis have gone

All the Emoticons and Mojis have gone in the latest Windows 10 download (which took AGES, by the way!!).

I only have a handful of emoticons now, and not all of them are useful.

I've installed the new version...that didn't work

I've reinstalled Skype...that didn't work

I've logged in on my phone only...that didn't work

Any idea what can be done to restore them?  Now, when someone sends something to me, I just get text, like (dotdmale)

This is not something changing randomly, but you will experience this when a new set of emoticons and mojis is downloaded to Skype. The last week, there were actually several updates with new emojis set - Seasonal and, of course, STAR WARS.

 

During the update process, the list of emoticons will be frozen or incomplete. Like e.g. here.

Depending on the Internet connection, Firewall/Proxy settings, this process may take longer or shorter time. Pay attention to the small red dot on the emoticons icon. This means that emoticons were updated with a new set.
