Skype contacts not syncing with Android phone contacts

It seems that the new version of Skype does not want to sync contacts with my Android phone contacts. Skype used to appear in my phone's list of accounts available for linking but now it is not accessible. I've spent about hour trying to figure out the problem and the only reason I can come up with as to why it won't work is that it must be a prime with these new version of Skype.

Hi ikofig,

Good Day!

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Since the Skype application is already updated, we strongly advise you to update your supported OS version or Android version as well. This is to avoid any incompatibility issue.

After updating and to refresh the application, please follow the troubleshooting steps below:

1.   Go to phone settings > Application list > locate Skype.

2.   Tap clear cache and data > uninstall

3.   Reboot your device > Reinstall Skype > Sign in

Once you launch the new Skype app you will be asked to sync your Android phone contacts to Skype.

If you have questions you can reply to this thread.

Thank you!

the new skype is garbage man. it doesn't work any more with my galaxy No5 like the older version did. the contacts in my phone doesn't import from skype cause skype is not on the list of accounts connected. horrible skype version. Slow as hell too. By the time I answer the phone it goes into voice mail.
So full of hate, it's getting late. Yeah, I know it's coming. When all the choice turned to just one voice. Yeah, the wind is turning. This is your horrorscope

Hi Marites P,

So the only way to resync phone contacts, to pick up recent additions to phone contacts for example, is to clear cache and reinstall ... yes? ... but surely not ... when will this be fixed and "sync" reappear in the application system menus etc ???

Thank you in advance for your time!

Cheers,

dtm

Had a version of Skype on my android tablet has a contact list of everyone in my phonebook and invite next to them.  Uninstalled and reinstalled now only have the one new contact I was trying to setup, which I accepted via the online web version on my desktop.
Also in the desktop version the only linked account type is microsoft.  What happend to my yahoo and gmail accounts?

New skype has a check and validate it before synch, contacts stored without country code are invalid for skype. Just update those contact and it will start appearing.

Hi Marites,

the real problem seem to at least with Skype on my Sony M5 with Anroid 6.0 is that as ikofig stated Skype account can't be added as an account anymore with the new Skype Version. The Sync of phone contacts to Skype works fine, just my Skype contacts don't show up in my phone contacts, and the reason for that is that there in no Skype Account anymore on the Phone. And I can't find a way to add it, because it doesn't show up in the list of account types. So is there any solution to that?

Hello,

My phone OS version is updated(android 7.0), I as well was trying to proceed with the troubleshooting steps. But it still not working. I as well try to install "Skype light" but for it as well contact not syncing. For "Skype" app it even don't create account in phone settings.

Please provide a fix or possible workaround how to deal with this issue. It's ridiculous that on my old android phone(with old app) I was able to see skype contacts in my contact list, and now I'm not able to do it.

Best Regards,

Vitalii

same problem with me. After installing skype on my android phone, I don't see Skype in account list in settings and that's why contacts are not synchronised. Any help?

Same for me.

I imported my contacts from my Note 3 to my Note 8 and it shows a connected profile as "name" but won't sync the account itself.

If I go into the accounts setting on my phone and press Skype it just takes me back to the previous menu.

Whilst I'm using 7.46, (sorry; but 8.x is just plain terrible), this shouldn't stop me being able to add the Skype account to the phone itself, (possibly an issue with newer Android OS's)?
