Release Notes for Skype 8.78

The latest Skype version 8.78 is out. You asked, we delivered!

  

Skype for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Web

  • Sharing is caring: We've given you more options for sharing—or not sharing—in Skype. Learn more about screen sharing in Skype.

  • Thoroughly modern messaging: In the light theme, rounded corners and added color modernize our design and make your messages look sharp. We’ve also made avatars larger.

  • And modern calling, too: Enjoy a modernized experience while you're on a call.

  • Bug fixes and stability improvements. We wrapped some bugs in a rug and took them outside. Then we tidied up a bit.

 

 

Skype for Android, iPhone, and iPad

  • Stylin’ and profilin’: A bright, new search bar and updated avatars allow you to connect with style.

  • Keep it moving: Notifications have moved to the bottom of the screen for easier navigation.

  • Bug fixes and stability improvements. We wrapped some bugs in a rug and took them outside. Then we tidied up a bit.

 

 

What’s fixed?  

  • Inability to see other users’ screenshare - there was a green screen displayed

  • Sharing photos causing the app to crash

The new features are rolling out gradually over the next couple of days so if you don’t see them right away, just check again soon!

Thanks for the update.

I check the setting -> Apps & Features and found two skype instances listed.

I recently start having problem with echoing, whenever I used skype, I experienced a very bad echoing.

I wonder it is due to these conflicting two instances. I only use desktop version of the skype, so which one I should uninstall?

Q: Why do I have two skype instances listed here? Should I remove one to avoid the echoing problem?

@Irene I have a problem with installing the latest update on Fedora 35.

When I try to update to 8.79.0.92 I get this error:

Error: Transaction test error: file /usr/lib/.build-id/34/feaa549462e8818baa0629ce11da344465882b from install of skypeforlinux-8.79.0.92-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package discord-0.0.16-1.fc35.x86_64

It seems your package is having some issues with the discord package from RPMfusion.

So glad you keep improving/updating Skype. I have used Skype for years and I love it. I use it for business and personal. It's great for staying in contact with the people who manage and work on my indoor air quality website. I can manage my entire team of freelancers through Skype. Thanks again! I appreciate it!

Thank you for sharing this feedback.

We are aware of this echoing, however, we really need se more logs so that we can fix the issue as soon as possible. Could you please report the problem through the app? (please report it and send logs too, thank you)

Another quick question; which store are you using for these downloads?
