!! Linux Users !! Enable New Calling Experience!

Hi Linux Insiders/Linux Skype users,

We have enabled the ability to opt in to this New Calling Experience BETA on the Skype Insider app version of Linux.

This new version of the calling experience can improve camera and microphone detection.

It also adds HW acceleration and enables screen sharing on Wayland Linux distribution.

This feature is currently in BETA.

Please let us know if you notice any issues through the 'Report a Problem' feature in the app.

  • If you have downloaded the Skype Insider app, please Report the problem through the app, with logs after the connection issues, and send the report with logs (this is the most helpful for us). Just go to the Settings -> Help & Feedback -> Report a problem -> Send report with logs

  • If you are regular Skype Retail user but you are willing to download the Skype Insider app (the Skype early access app), please download the latest Insider build and report the problem.

I downloaded the deb version of the Skype Insiders version (Skype version 8.95.76.301) and the "New calling experience BETA" setting is not in there. I tried a video call to see if screen sharing was perhaps available and it was not. I am running Ubuntu 22.10

It was there but they "upgraded" and it is no longer there.. :(

Why have you disabled the NEW CALLING EXPERIENCE BETA in the last update? Please return this functionality!

Same problem here (Ubuntu 23.04). Love Skype, but this must come back!

Many, if not all, Linux distributions are switching to Wayland. Skype may eventually become unusable as Xorg is phased out of distributions if it is not implemented in Wayland correctly.
