How do I fix sending and receiving text messages when I am on 5G?

My skype is not working when I am on 5G unlimited data. It only loads when I am on wifi. I have been able to get in skype before on 5G, but it just recently started to freeze. I am no longer able to text anymore. I have cleared the cache, reinstalled the app, reset my phone and cellular data, log out and back into my account.

Hello,ashley mac

Thanks for raising your concerns in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you've taken a few good troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue of Skype not working properly on 5G. Since these steps haven't solved the problem yet, here are a few things you can consider:

1-> Check your app's network settings:

  • Make sure your mobile data is actually active and that you haven't inadvertently set your phone to use data over Wi-Fi only for specific apps. This can usually be checked in the Data Usage settings on your phone.

  • There is an option in iOS to limit app background data, which may impact performance when not connected to Wi-Fi. If you need to ensure that Skype is not restricted, please open Settings on your phone - find your Skype - click to enter Wireless Data - make sure your WLAN & Cellular Data is checked and turned on

2-> Check the 4G/5G settings of your mobile data:

There may be limitations or issues with certain carriers' 5G services that may affect app functionality. Try switching your phone's network settings from 5G to 4G to see if that stabilizes performance. This setting is usually found in the phone's Settings - Cellular - In the tab of SIMs - click into the Voice & Data - Switch back to 4G. Check if your Skype works on 4G?

Additional recommendations and troubleshooting measures:

  1. If you need to troubleshoot whether the problem comes from Skype's local server or 5G network segment, try using other communication applications under the same conditions to see if the problem is isolated to Skype. You can try to connect and use Skype on PC. If Skype can be used normally under WIFI, it proves that your current Skype application is normal.

  2. If it is convenient, you can also use your mobile phone under the 5G network to turn on a personal hotspot and share it to your PC to check whether it is currently unable to respond correctly under 5G?
