Android: Skype crashing shortly after login

Hi,

Since the last update around Mid May, Skype keeps crashing shortly after logging on. I can see the contacts, new message notifications and if I am really fast I can even start reading or writing but after some 20 seconds the app will restart asking for login, scheme, contacts etc.

Reinstall does not help, as well as clearing cache. Also tried with Skype beta but same problem.

Happens on Sony XZ Premium with Android 9 as well as on Sony L1 with an older Android version.

What can I do?

Thank you!

Peter

Hi Peter

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

This has worked for some Skype Android users:

Try installing an older version of Skype for Android to see if it works..

Try below steps and see if the issue still persists:

Go to your Phone settings and look for Applications or Application Manager.

Look for Skype and then select Force Stop > Clear cache > Clear Data > Uninstall.

After uninstalling, kindly do a reboot on your device.

Go to APK site, APKMirror https://www.apkmirror.com/, and download and install Skype for Android 8.25.0.5.

Different internet connection: no change

Different Skype account on same device: no crash
On computer (Windows 10) and Windows phone (10) with any Internet connection: no crash

Also on an older Android version no crash with same account.

Of course I can download an old Skype version and it will probably work as it did before May. But on a recent phone with a recent Android version, there should be a way to get it working without having to step out from the normal update process.

Hi Peter,

I am having similar problem, each time I log in to Skype App, it goes off immediately. All my business meetings were cancelled due to the technical issue.

I need help to resolve this. The only only way I've been able to use Skype is by going the browser.

Needs help asap.

Regards

Keem
