16) Rebooted the cable modem.

Problem still exists.

As problem started very recently (within last 2 weeks) and is affecting 3 different systems, I'm suspecting either a change made by my ISP or Microsoft is causing this issue.  Did not know the XP systems were having problems until after I had reimaged the Windows 7 system :(

The WindowsUpdate.log for the last MSE update attempt follows, if that is helpful to anyone.

Suggestions as to what to try next?

Thanks,

SLW

Answer

The BEFSR41 is a router. http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/BEFSR41 that includes what Linksys refers to a Stateful Packet Inspection firewall.

Based on your experience with connectivity to Windows Update for MSE updates, I'd disable that feature *or* connect a PC directly to the modem to verify that the router is the problem here - despite the fact that your cable company has some stranglehold on their modem. Troubleshooting by connecting directly to the modem is perfectly normal and usually the first thing most cable ISPs will advise when one is experiencing a connectivity issue.

My advice is to contact the ISP to work through this issue, then, since it is affecting all of your computers and the problem is either them, your modem, or your router.
