Error Code 0x8024402f

MS Security essentials does not update and gives Error Code 0x8024402f
Answer
Answer

Are you encountering the subject error when updating manually?

You can manually download the (large file with engine and full definitions) latest definitions from the portal here: https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx

Is the computer date and time correct (month. day, year, time, time zone)?

Open MSE and tell us what version the definitions are currently shown as on the update tab, the creation date, and the last updated date/time information. Is this a new installation? If not, when did this problem begin?

Try Hitman Pro Trial Version: http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro This program may be run from a flash drive. And/or

Try TDSS Killer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-tdss-tdl3-alureon-rootkit-using-tdsskiller TDSS Killer may be run from a flash drive.

Prior Security Software?

Any security software still installed?

A possible reason for this problem is that you have conflicting security software installed fully or partially on the PC. Remove all other security software from the PC.

You may need to use a cleanup tool to remove your prior security software. See this Wiki article:

List of anti-malware product removal tools

Be sure to review this Wiki: Microsoft Security Essentials Installation Checklist

You may want to uninstall MSE, see this Wiki article:  Uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials

Then install from: www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Be sure to select the correct version for your operating system and also the language, if that applies.
