Can't download definitions. Error Code: 0x80240022

Please bear with me because I am new to forums... using Microsoft Security Essentials, I am unable to update the definitions.  Error message says, "MSE could not download definition updates.  This may be caused be a missing system file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a file registry."  I have been deleting files tonight and may have accidently caused this.  But, I have no idea how to begin to repair the problem.  Please help

Check the PC date and time - right click the clock in the tray and select adjust date and time.
Verify and correct the month, day, year, and time. Reboot.
If that does not resolve it, please open a support case:
