My computer won't boot to windows from windows defender offline

Hi,

I am seriously in need of help in resolving my computer problems after I asked it to perform windows defender offline operation.

It did the job but the challenge is that it refused to boot to windows. It keeps on scanning the computer without booting to windows. I have been on it for about 2 days. In addition, the computer keeps repeating "preparing automatic repair".

What can I do please? I don't want to loose my installations and documents.

Hi,

Let's get into Advanced Startup. Hold the Shift button while you force restart your computer. In Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

I never was able to provoke this situation on my test machines. But from what I was able to track it down, it seems that a damaged boot environment or a locked hard disk is the root cause. See:  Windows 10: Defender Offline Scan boot loop – Part 2
