Windows defender not working.

I am using Windows 10 pro version 1903.

My windows defender is not working. It showing "engine unavailable".

Its not updating and while i want to scan it not scanning.

I am pressing scan option but nothing happening.

Please help in this regard.

You should refer to following - Problems starting Windows Defender in Windows 8/8.1/10 -

Apart from this,

1. You can try to update Windows Defender Definition. Updating the Windows Defender Definition has also solved this kind of issue. You can download the latest definition manually and update.

Download the required file (.exe) as per bit of your OS from below link and double click on it install.

32 Bit -
64 Bit -

2. Do following registry fix

Windows Key+R > Regedit > Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender
Change both DisableAntiSpyware and DisableAntiVirus values to 0

If these keys are not there - In the right pane right-click on an empty space, select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value

Name the key DisableAntiSpyware

Double-click the newly created key, and set the value to 0

Do the same for DisableAntiVirus also.
