If you have crash problem please start CMD from Troubleshoot and type;

del "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service\DetectionHistory\*"

del "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\mpenginedb.db"

Reboot system and check again.

From video you posted on YouTube , I don't see any crashing.

However, if there is any crash Windows will collect logs and send it to Microsoft and you did right thing by submit feedback which helps Windows team to investigate the issue.

Hi ardat1

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

I do see the crash at the end.

The only way to reinstall Windows Defender is to perform a repair upgrade. Follow the steps below:

Download the Media Creation Tool Now
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

Right click the MediaCreationTool.exe file then click Run as administrator.

Accept the End User License Agreement:

Select the option Upgrade this PC now if you want to upgrade right away,

Click Next

Accept the End User License Agreement.

Wait while Windows 10 setup does one final check to ensure your system is ready.

Windows 10 setup will check if you have enough disk space. If you donít, review the following article for instructions how to upgrade to Windows 10 Anniversary Update on a system with limited space:

Please note, you have the option of choosing what you would like to keep, which includes personal files, apps and settings.

If you want to perform a new install or just keep your files click Change what to keep. Once you have chosen the desired options, click Install to begin.

This will be your screen for a little while. During the installation, your computer will restart several times.

After the first restart, Windows 10 setup will resume. You will notice the setup experience has once again been refined from the previous animated circle. This will be your screen for a while. When complete, Windows 10 setup will restart automatically.

Sign into your account.

Wait while Windows 10 completes application updates and post setup tasks.

Thatís it, the Windows 10 Feature Update is installed. You can check Windows Update for latest updates, click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for Updates.
Best regards,
Andre Da Costa

Actually issue starts at 0:09, because Security Center close itself when i click protection history.

Also i found solution. Just delete all files in 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service'

I saw it, try submit this issue through feedback hub app.

Since it crashed, it should automatically collect log files and submit them.

The SecHealthUI continues to crash for me.

- Upgrade (MCT) no success

- Delete History no success

I've noticed that the SecHealthUi doesn't crash as long as I don't hover over the window until the protection history is loaded.

Do to the nature of XAML I've made clear that I have a healthy app environment and all apps are "clean & fresh", still didn't work. The issues start after removing sample malware by hand and not through defender.

Hi, i am having the same problem. Windows defender crashes when i try to open protection history.

Your first advice on deleting all files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service worked initially but the problem presisted on subsequent start ups.

Next i tried running CMD as admin and tried the entry
del "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\mpenginedb.db" it responded saying file is being used by another process.

This morning i did get a notification saying that there are threats detected but i can not do anything about it since i cannot access protection history.

Thanks for your help!

You need be start CMD from Troubleshoot.

But, if there any virus, my opinion, install 3rd AV (i recommend kaspersky) and remove all virus. Because some virus can disable Defender. After you can try cmd commands.
