How do I change my password back to the old one.

So today I was forced by outlook to change the password, but now I want to use the old one and it says: "Please choose a password that you haven't used before. To help protect your account, you need to choose a new password every time you reset it."

If the old one was never hacked how much security problems could I have by going back? I mean, is it really safer for me to have a 12345678a password? If it's the security of my account, and I know the old password was really strong and safe, why are you forcing me to not be secure?

I know, I saw. But why? It doesn't make it more secure.
Example:
Old password (random): !k4M_03?G
New password: 12345678a

That can't be right. Right?

Of course not but

old one !@At_K9^
new one another random same length same complexity.

What would work is to use a pass phrase instead of a difficult to remember secure password. Something like
Use a phrase like more today than yesterday but less than tomorrow. That becomes MTTYBLTT
add a 1@MTTYBLTT@9.   If you ever need to change it simply change the "1@" or the "@9" to say

2@MTTYBLTT@8

Not perfect by any means bunt workable.  There are also password generators that will do similar things.

Hi YelWar,

In addition to ZigZag3143's post, Microsoft determine unique password used by user. This policy ensure security of one’s account to make sure that old passwords are not reused every time a user is required to change or update their password. I recommend that you just add one character to your previously or currently use password when you want to change your password again, in this way you wouldn’t be creating a new set password to use.

Kindly refer to the link below for more information about strong password creation.

This is 100% unacceptable! I want my old password back! There HAS to be a way to get old password back. If I want to comprise my account by not changing my password that is my choice. Being forced by Microsoft to change is complete BS. This has inconvenienced and messed up ALL of my devices! I am uber unhappy. Please tell me how to get my old password back!

This morning I thought I'd been hacked when Hotmail/Outlook FORCED me to change my password.

I'm not looking forward to changing it again later...nor am I looking forward to my Mother having to be coached 3 times on how to change her password...she has enough trouble as it is (she's 80yrs old). This is an official *growl* and I am sorely tempted to change over to gmail. Just becuz I had no CHOICE in the matter.
