What are the colored circles in contacts?

I don't understand the colored circles with a little circle on the perimeter. Are they relatively new? What is the little bubble for? Is there a color code system? What on earth???

I'm sorry this took so long. I couldn't get it to work when I took the screenshot, which was right away, and just saw I hadn't tried again. It worked! So, what's with those colored circles and the little white ones at the lower right?

That's actually part of the new design. We currently have the same interface in my account. Small circle does not have any indication.

Nice design but do the colors have any significance? There's purple, black, green, red, etc.

Colors do not have any significance too. We also have different colors on our end. See the picture below.
