Skype chat works in Skydrive.com but not in Outlook.com

Dear Community,

I faced a weird "issue". It turned out that I can use my Skype and Facebbok account to chat with people through Skydrive.com, but if I open the Outlook.com website, I cannot use the chat there...

It happens also if I use the same browser window, and also happens if I am using them separately. Also, it turned out that the messaging is not working (or rarely works) on my WP8 handset. I can only see the same conversations on my phone as it is on outlook.com.

However I can see it on skyrdive.com...

Did anyone face a similar issue yet?

Thanks, Ferenc

Hi,

Welcome to Micosoft Community.

I'm happy to help you with your concern.

I understand that you cannot chat with your Skype and Facebook contacts thru Outlook.com but it works fine when you go to Skydrive.com.

To start off, kindly optimize your browser or use other browsers so we could determine if this is a browser related issue.

Please be informed that if you’re not using an updated browser, some parts of Outlook might not work and it might not display properly.

For more information on how to get the best browsing experience in Outlook.com, kindly refer to this article.

Which browsers are supported by SkyDrive, People and Outlook.com?

I would also like to ask you to use another computer to isolate the issue further.

With regard to your issues using Windows Phone 8, please refer to this link.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Thank you.

I tried all the above, in the same order as you mentioned, even I consider myself a power user.

Nothing changed. I also tried another PC, no success, then I tried to use a MAC also to do it... Unfortunately still no success...

Very weird...

Any other suggestions, or just live with it?

Ferenc

Hi Ferenc,

Let me help you with this issue on not being able to access Skype using Outlook.com.

By the way, have you tried to sign in other user account on Outlook.com and check if the same issue persists? If not, please try to do so.

Let us know how things turn out!

Thank you.

Hi Jessa_R,

I tried as you wrote, used a different account also to access accounts from the same computer, also from different computers, switched browsers, etc.. The issue is still the same with that account also.

One more thing: I see the same messages (definitely not all) in Outlook.com as I see on my windows phone 8 device. On Skydrive.com I see everything, skype, FB etc.

Maybe an info if helps, I live in Hungary.

Hi DenisHorgen,

Thank you for posting your concern here at Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having problems using Skype chat in Outlook, Calendar and People page. Did you already tried the intial troubleshooting  steps given by Andreo Paulo_D? If not, kindly do so and see if the issue will still persist.

If the issue persists, we’d like you to provide us the answers to the following questions that I have enumerated below. These will help us to investigate your concern:

·         Does the issue happen when using a different computer?

·         Do other Outlook.com accounts encounter the same issue when using your computer?

·         Does the same thing happen when you access your account from the same computer with a different browser?

I am looking forward for your response.

Thanks!

Hi All!

Any update on this weird behavior? I can still chat with all my Skype contacts in SkyDrive, but not in Outlook.com.

I cleared my cache and I use IE10, automatically updated.

Screenshot from SkyDrive:

Screenshot from Outlook.com:

Skype is unavailable and can't be added by clicking "Add" link.

This is strange and I don't understand why it doesn't work the same way.

Thanks,

Robin

Hi Abigail,
It works now. Unsure what could be the reason. I didn't empty the cache, I tried on all browsers (Firefox, Safari & Chrome) on my Mac. The only change I made was to switch the language from English USA to English UK, and, o miracle, Skype appeared!

Thanks!

Denis

OK Folks! I sorted it out, finally ;-)

I did two things:

  1. Completed my Skype profile on https://secure.skype.com/portal/profile. I filled in stuff like language, country, etc. Is hould say: Your Skype account is 100% complete.
  2. I switched settings of my MS account (country and language) to United States, language EN-US.

I seems this service didn't get released for some regions.

Cheers!
