Why is the new outlook so slow

There appears to be major issues with the performance of outlook which were not present at all on hotmail.

1. General slowness when navigating folders, creating a new message, opening mail, responding to mail etc

2.. When writing a message it auto saves drafts, if i'm typing when this happens it hangs and misses out anything i've typed, the hang can last up to 5 seconds. There are no options to turn this off to stop it happening and it happens too frequently.

3. The last couple of days, after writing a mail, i click send, the little dots move along the top of the screen and then it just stops as if the message has not been sent. So i hit send again and it does it again. What i didn't realise was that it did send all the messages.

Is there any official word on any of these problems, from scouring the internet it appears i am not alone in suffering from these issues. It is not a browser problem!
