Duplicate sent emails in Sent Box

I have only realized a couple of days ago that my sent box has thousands (80,000+) duplicate sent emails in it - Why?
I have read the forums advising to clear browsing data etc, remove accounts from iPad & Galaxy S3 mobile.
I have done this & am now trying to delete the masses of emails but am getting the following message on the top of my screen 'There was a problem with the Outlook service (a temporary network connectivity issue that has nothing to do with your computer). Please try again.  If you keep receiving this message, go to Service status to see if there's a problem with Outlook'
Can you please help, I can see myself being stuck manually deleting these emails for the next 6 weeks

Unfortunately this response gives no solution as to how to fix the problem. Emptying a folder is relatively simple - a cure for the issue (multiple copies in the 'sent' folder every time an email is sent) appears to be more elusive. Any advice on that?

Emails sent using the Samsung or Sony mail app will duplicate in the Sent folder.

The emails duplicate every time the Samsung or Sony mail app syncs.

The Sent folder can grow so much that the account may be blocked.

You will have to fix the duplicating problem.

There is an update to the Samsung mail app.  It fixes the Sent folder duplicating messages.

Or remove the account from the phone app.

Download and install the outlook.com app.

Add the account.

Or you can setup the account to use 'Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync'.

FIXED ON SAMSUNG GALAXY S2?

I had the same problem with hundreds of duplicated emails in my outlook sent mail folder. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I use the native email app (which I prefer after trying many alternatives). I cleared the problem using the native email app on my phone.  I deleted the outlook account [open app; settings; bin in top right corner; delete] then added it back selecting 'Manual Setup'.  When the app then asks 'What type of account?' I selected 'Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync'.

The settings needed are as follows...

Domain\user name: \[Your outlook email address]

Password: [Your outlook password]

Exchange Server: s.outlook.com

Use Secure connection (SSL) [Tick yes]

Use client certificate: [Leave blank]

All your emails will be back in place on the phone within a few minutes once you have worked through a few more settings which are all ok at their default values.

I can now send emails from my Samsung with only one instance appearing in my outlook sent folder :)

If I get any further problems I will report back.

I got the Exchange ActiveSync settings from the following

I have this problem on my Sony SP. I have removed hotmail from the Sony mail client and only have in Outlook app. this seems to have resolved the problem on the phone BUT
a. My PC based hotmail is STILL sending these multiple emails (and they are being sent, just not with my name on
b. My PC based hotmail shows them all as being sent from me to me
c. My outlook app is constantly showing "syncing"

Any advice for a Sony user

Hotmail doesn't run on your PC.  It's just a web page.

What evidence has you believing that Hotmail is sending the messages?  Do they appear on your Sent folder?  Hotmail cannot send messages without your name if you have a name set up in your account.

I thought that Way because my phone was no longer showing new sent messages but my hotmail on my pc was. I now raise that's because my phone asp hasn't synced up to the most recent sent messages.
The constant sending seems to havehave stopped but now my phone app can't sync up, also the search facility on my pc hotmail isn't working.
I believe this is probably because the glitch has left 83000 messages in my sent Box.
I am trying to clear It. Was reluctant to just empty folder ad then I'll lose all legit messages. But today I will just empty Out. If I can't get my outlook app to work then I Will have to bin Out and get a new app.

My problem is with the Sent Box on my PC only and with only one of my addresses which is a Live account.  It does not happen on my phone or my Ipad.  I have cleared by cache but to no avail.  I am worried this could be a virus but it seems to be a common problem.  Any other solutions
