Outlook Web App - Scrolling Problem

I have a problem with scrolling in the various inbox, outbox, sent, drafts etc folders. At any given time, when I try to scroll beyond the day before yesterday, the window jumps back to the top. I notice also that while the scroll bar is in place, there is no cursor displayed in the scrollbar to enable scroll-up or -down. Any assistance with this would be appreciated.

Hi KeithWatterson,

We understand that you have scrolling issues in accessing your Inbox, Outbox, and other folders in your account. Let’s work on this together and we’ll assist you in the best way we can.

To isolate if it’s an issue with Outlook or may have something to do with the device being used to scroll and navigate to the emails, we’d like to ask the questions below:

1. Noted that the thread is tagged under Outlook.com and Outlook web app is mentioned, may we confirm which specific browser you are using in accessing your account via Outlook.com?

2. May we ask for a screen recording or video clip that shows the issue with scrolling in the Outlook web app? This is for us to check on this further.

3. Are you using a personal or work/business account?

4. Are you using a Windows 10 PC or a Mac device?

5. When did the issue start? Were there any possible changes/updates made before this happens?

6. Does the issue only occur when you scroll to your emails via Outlook.com? How about on other websites or applications? Does the scroll function work fine from there?

Once we got the necessary information, then we’ll be able to provide recommendations, as to what’s needs to be done.

To notify us and have us get back to you, simply reply to this post.

Hello, we have been having the same issue for years. The Outlook Web App does not allow us to scroll without jumping around. It's incredibly frustrating and can make it almost impossible to systematically go through a busy inbox.

1. Noted that the thread is tagged under Outlook.com and Outlook web app is mentioned, may we confirm which specific browser you are using in accessing your account via Outlook.com?

Chrome. Issue present using all versions to date. Current Version 89.0.4389.114 (Official Build) (64-bit)

The issue also occurs when using Edge.

2. May we ask for a screen recording or video clip that shows the issue with scrolling in the Outlook web app? This is for us to check on this further.

Please provide a private channel to share the video.

3. Are you using a personal or work/business account?

Business.

4. Are you using a Windows 10 PC or a Mac device?

Windows

5. When did the issue start? Were there any possible changes/updates made before this happens?

It has happened for years, since we first started using Outlook Web App.

6. Does the issue only occur when you scroll to your emails via Outlook.com? How about on other websites or applications? Does the scroll function work fine from there?

This issue has only occurred within the Outlook Web App.

I've been having this same issue for the past several months when using Chrome with the Outlook Web App. I switched to using Edge, and now it's happening with Edge too! I have no scroll bar on the right, and when I use the scroll wheel on my mouse it only lets me get so far before it jumps back up to the top of my Inbox. Very frustrating!

I'm having a very similar problem with Outlook on my Android Pixel phone that might be the same issue.

If I try to scroll a message by tapping and dragging, it stops every few lines. I have to pick my finger up and tap/drag again for a few more lines.

If I flick up, it scrolls just fine. Which is fine for scanning a newsletter, but not so much for reading paragraphs and such.

This behavior doesn't happen in any other app besides Outlook.

Is there a fix for this yet? Seems to still be an issue at our facility.

I have exactly the same issue and have for years. The good news is that I can get around the problem by using the latest version of Firefox

This is just a theory because I don't have admin privileges on the work computer so I can't uninstall etc. but it seemed to happen to another browser (Edge then Chrome) after the S/MIME extension got installed.

I don't see anyone else referencing that extension here... so it's a long shot.

Perhaps do a complete reset of the browser to default?

We switched to 365 and I'm not having 'that' issue there (other issues due to poor policy choices tho).

Good luck
