Outlook won't connect to incoming IMAP server

Hi,

Recently Outlook stopped sending/receiving mails. I tried some troubleshooting but decided to remove the mail accounts and start again. Now I can't add any mail accounts. Hopefully you can help.

When trying to add I receive the error: Something went wrong. We couldn't log on to the incoming (IMAP) server

I have tried:

Removing all mail accounts

Checked login details by accessing webmail
Checked multiple accounts e.g. yahoo, sky, gmail
Checked correct ports and IMAP settings for providers
Disabled firewall, anti virus
Re-installed office
Updated office
Windows update
Tried adding account though manage profiles
Tried adding account manaually
Any help is much appreciated :)

Hi Himalay,

I have completed all steps and still no luck.

I also forgot to add. All accounts for IMAP work fine on my phone using the outlook and gmail apps. Just not on my PC.

Thanks

I have the exact same issue.  I have both an Outlook mail client and I guess a "generic" Windows (?) mail client on my laptop.  Out of nowhere my Comcast email account stopped syncing.   I changed my Comcast account password and can successfully login from my work PC.  Likewise, my phone (Android) stays connected and synced.  However, the Comcast account on my laptop (both in the unidentifiable (to me) client and the Outlook 16 client) will not sync.  I tried changing the Comcast password on the laptop account(s) to match the changed Comcast account password that works from my work PC and my phone, and I get the dreaded "can't connect to the incoming IMAP server message.  I likewise tried removing the Comcast account and re-adding it, but it will not allow me to add it back in.  Relatedly, I had my gmail account added to the generic Windows mail client, and it stopped syncing even though I had made no password or other Gmail account changes.  My Gmail account still syncs on my phone.  I did not have the gmail account on my Outlook mail client, so I tried to add it.  No luck -- again the IMAP error message.  At first I thought this was a Comcast issue, but am beginning to be convinced this is a Microsoft problem.

I have the same problem no emails on my Outlook Android IMAP account since 18 February, ok on my PC but not on my Android phone. My outlook account (Hotmail) is fine.

Since last Android update!

Also tried all of the above. Also tried archiving old emails on my Outlook on my PC.

Very annoying and frustrating, will need to try another app is not working soon as I rely on getting my emails promptly.
