Windows Mail to Outlook problem

I'm trying to go from Windows Mail to Outlook. When it asks for Microsoft username I use the one which works to access my user account. Then I get username not recognized message. What is going on and how can I get beyond this point?

Hello JHE1PA,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that transitioning from Windows Mail to New Outlook can be a challenging experience, especially when encountering unexpected issues like the “username not recognized” message.  Just to set your expectations, we have limited tools to check your account, subscription, and service details in the community. Let me do my best to help you.

Let me ask you this:

  • I'd like to know what @domain and who hosts your email account. Example @domains: Gmail.com, Yahoo.com Outlook.com/Hotmail.com

    • Can I find out if the account is for work/school use or personal use?

  • Can you still access your webmail?

  • Have you tried to switch back to classic windows Mail?

  • Please send us screenshot of the error.

I would like to inform you that the new outlook is still under development and is expected to have known or new issues. In the meantime, we recommend switching to the classic version to see if it works, so we encourage you to send feedback to our Microsoft development team. Let’s explore some potential solutions to help you move beyond this point:

  1. Check Your Microsoft Account:

    • Ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft username. Sometimes, the username required for Outlook might differ from the one you use to access your user account. Double-check and make sure you’re entering the right credentials.

  2. Update Your Email Alias:

    • Visit your Microsoft account settings and navigate to Account Aliases.

    • Add your Outlook email address as an alias.

    • Set the new email address as your primary alias.

  3. Delete all credentials stored in Windows Credential Manager. This will allow you to clear the old, saved passwords in Credential Manager making sure you can save the latest password. Make sure your Outlook is closed upon performing this.

    1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.

    2. Type control keymgr.dll and press Enter.

    3. In the Credential Manager window, click the Windows Credentials tab.

    4. Scroll down and look for all saved credentials.

    5. Press the credential you want to remove, then click the Delete button.

    6. Click Yes in the pop-up window to confirm the action.

Note: Repeat steps 5 and 6 for any Outlook credentials that you want to remove. After you delete all credentials, close the Credential Manager window.

  4. Repair your Outlook profile: You can try repairing your Outlook profile by following these steps:

    1. Close Outlook.

    2. Open the Control Panel and select "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)".

    3. Click "Show Profiles".

    4. Select your Outlook profile and click "Properties".

    5. Click "Email Accounts".

    6. Select your email account and click "Repair".

    7. Follow the prompts to complete the repair process.

My domain name is @zoominternet.net

It is supplied by Armstrong, my internet provider. I use email for personal use.

I can still get my email through windows mail.

When I try to move from Windows Mail to Outlook I'm asked for my MIcrosoft username and password. I enter that and get a message that they are not recognized. The precise wording is "This username may be incorrect. Make sure you typed it correctly. Otherwise contact your administrator."

Hello

Sorry for the delays as I am out of office.

I would highly suggest to stay in classic mail for now as new outlook is still under development.
