Use Search Folders in Outlook on the Web (OWA)

Is there a way to create Search Folders on Outlook on the Web like we can in the Outlook Desktop App to find and organise emails in a mailbox such as by size?

I am trying to find ways for those in our organisation who use Outlook on the Web to better manage their storage limits by deleting emails with large attachments.

Hi ChristianSang,

Thanks for posting concern in this forum. Outlook desktop app and Outlook on the Web are two different products, some features are not same, such as Search folder, it can only be created in Outlook desktop app. But your demand can be achieved via email filtering feature of Outlook on the web, for detailed steps, please view below:

1. Filter emails via mail size. Click Filter > Sort > Size > Largest on top.

2. Sort out the emails that have attachment. Select Filter by Attachments.

Thanks for that.  Does the filter apply to all folders and sub-folders in the mailbox or just to the folder I am in when applying the filter?  The beauty of the search folders in Outlook is that it looks in all folders including sent items, etc.

Hi ChristianSang,

The filter feature only works for the folder that you are configurating. Excepting the filter feature, you could also try the advanced search feature to search emails that contain attachment in your whole mailbox(all folders).

Ok thanks.  Neither option is as good as the Search Folders in the Outlook App unfortunately as this spans all folders.  My users have many subfolders to organise their mailbox so having to sort emails by size in each folder is too time consuming.

I tried your option to Search all folders ticking the Attachments option but it it only brings back results if you enter a search term which isn't suitable for what we're trying to achieve.

I appreciate that Outlook on the Web and the Outlook desktop app are different products but it seems counterintuitive not to have certain useful functionality on both platforms, especially the lack of an option to easily find large emails, remove attachments from emails whilst retaining the messages and resizing images from within outlook on the web before sending when all of these functions help to better manage ones mailbox size, something which is more likely to be needed for someone who operates in a deskless environment like a kiosk worker.  They are more likely to have a more restricted mailbox capacity that needs better options to control their storage limits.

Hi ChristianSang,

Sorry for the delayed reply since I am out of office these days, I fairly understand your demand and concern, but as you see, it is not feasible to create search folder in Outlook on the web, your understanding is appreciated. Under this circumstance, we recommend you could post this demand to our Outlook on the web feedback forum, the development team is monitoring your suggestions and using feedback there, and once they notice your post and agree the idea, they may consider to develop the feature, your voice is helpful for us to better Outlook on the web app, thanks for your efforts.
