Trusted Senders Ending Up in Junk Mail

Started today in my Outlook.com Have a Hotmail address. Senders I've been receiving for years going to Junk mail. The Trusted senders are those which normally go to a designated file - NOT  to the Inbox. I am not using Outlook Premium.

Found this solution from October 2016. It does not work.

Hi Katherine,

There are possible reasons as to why you are experiencing the said issue. One of the possible cause can be due to the migration of Outlook.com to Outlook.com Beta. For us to get a better grasp of your query, may we know if you are having trouble with Outlook 2016 or Outlook.com ( through the web browser)?

We thank you for the update that you have provided us. Is the level of your junk email filter set to Standard? Kindly check and change it to the Standard level for the moment and check if it helps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and go to https://www.outlook.com .
  2. Sign in into your account using your credentials.
  3. On top right corner in Outlook.com page, click on Gear icon and click on Options.
  4. Under Mail, select Junk email click on Filters and reporting.
  5. Under Choose a junk email filter, change the level to Exclusive from Standard.
Important: When finished, it is recommended to sign out and sign in to apply the changes.

Keep us updated if anything comes up so we can further assist you.

If you think this was helpful, do not hesitate to "mark it as answer" to help those who are facing the same problem.

As stated in my initial question/email I did this and it does NOT work. Checked to see and it is still marked "exclusive" as I had done it. My Outlook account is a 'mess' as I see others having had same problem and also did the "exclusive" which is not the solution.

I know how to use OUTLOOK Mail which you referred me to. Again as stated in my initial question, trusted senders are being sent directly to Junk email.

If you can, please refer me to someone who can help.

By the way, I use to fix my own DOS and am not computer illiterate.

We appreciate your patience in helping us narrow down the issue in getting this resolved. Were there rules that you created of which the emails will be sent to the specific designated file and not the inbox?

It's how Microsoft processes inbound email.

If an inbound email is determined to be spam by Microsoft's servers then it is put into your Junk folder and all processing is stopped. Your Safe Senders, Blocks, Rules, etc. are not applied to that email.

Only when an inbound email is determined to not be spam and is put into your InBox do your Safe Senders, Blocks, Rules, etc. get applied.

To get Microsoft to update how they process inbound emails you should leave your suggestion in the Feedback mechanism in the ? menu when logged into Outlook.com.

January 26, 2018 when I first asked for help, All of the emails being sent to Junk had been going to rule designated folders.

Outlook Mail user for years. This is completely frustrating and seemingly inexcusable.
