Something went wrong and outlook couldn't set up your account. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact your email administrator.

Hi,

Initially, my co-worker is getting an error message about ..Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot Open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange failed. Lot of things were done like:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/i-can-t-start-microsoft-outlook-or-receive-the-error-cannot-start-microsoft-office-outlook-cannot-open-the-outlook-window-d1f69da6-b333-4650-97bf-4d77bd7abb85#:~:text=add%2Din%20installed.-,Start%20Outlook%20in%20safe%20mode,your%20password%20and%20choose%20Accept.

or this list:
1. Start Outlook in Safe Mode and Disable Add In
2. Creating a new profile
3. Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost) - SCANPST.EXE / Deleted Data files or Rebuild Data Files on Account Settings
4. Running the /resetnavpane command
5. Manually remove the Navigation Pane configuration file and have Outlook reset it -  %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook (delete Outlook.xml)

6. Quick Repair Office Program (Change or Remove a Program on Control Panel)
7. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise - en - us

Also this:

Open Registry Editor by pressing Windows+R and typing regedit.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0

left click and Delete the folder .

Close Registry Editor and restart your computer

After doing that, the outlook seems launching, then it asks for email to connect, but then this time the error popped up.

"Something went wrong and outlook couldn't set up your account. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact your email administrator."

Then tried this:
Use ExcludeLastKnownGoodUrl to prevent Outlook from using the last known good AutoDiscover URL

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\x.0\Outlook\Autodiscover

DWORD: ExcludeLastKnownGoodUrl

Value: 1

After that, same issue.

Any other things to try please?

Note, no problem accessing same email account on Outlook on the web, account is working perfectly fine.

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Outlook 2016 (or the one downloaded from M365 account) and Windows 10 Pro
Office 365 E3
On the Account Settings it says Microsoft Exchange
Yes working perfectly fine on other computer

I have read some articles, delete the account on Accounts > Access Work or School works but not quite confident doing it (if deleting what will happen if there is an AD connected to it)?

Also, creating a new windows user account, and launch outlook and register the account will this help? Or is it going to launch the same outlook with some corrupted files?

Any other suggestions, please feel free.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, may I ask please what will that do specifically? Is it also going to delete the User profile/created on the Windows Machine?

We see under "Generic Credentials" like:
Microsoft One Drive Cookies_Business1_https://......
Microsoft One Drive Cookies_V2_Business1_https://......
OneDrive Cached Credential Business - Business 1
Virtual app/...

SSO_...

Those all should be removed? Removing those, what will be the impact please?

Thanks
