smtp.live.com connection refused ???

Hello,

Trying to send an email using a website form (PHP)

I have tried all settings:

server: smtp.live.com
ports: 25 or 587
security: ssl or tls

I always get an error:  Connection Refused.

This is prior to sending user/password credentials.

It seems the server refuses the connection based on its origin. This scripts worked well with Gmail, but now I'd like to switch to Outlook.com and this is a deal breaker. Gmail had a mechanism by which it would approve the ip trying to send.

Thanks for help.

Hello,

I'm having the same issue. Tried all combinations:

Port 25, 587, 465  SSL/TLS

-Port 465 times out - so it not valid

All other combinations give an error message:

unable to connect to tls://smtp.live.com:587 (Connection refused)

This connection is the first handshake, prior to sending user & password info

smtp.live.com simply completely REFUSES the connection PERIOD !!!!

How to fix?????????

Thanks

No, just a php send mail script.

My script (2 different ones tested) work fine with Gmail SMTP TLS port 587.

I thing smtp.live.com REFUSES connections based on some blocklist or ???

Note the second EHLO after STARTTLS. Is that what you're missing?

This is prior to sending user/password credentials.

It's very confusing when you ask the same question in more than one place. You clearly didn't read my response: if you don't send the second hello after STARTTLS, the connection will fail before authentication takes place.

Hello,

Thanks for helping. I had posted the other thread prior to finding the better place.

Where exactly in your response did you mention "You clearly didn't read my response: if you don't send the second hello after STARTTLS, the connection will fail before authentication takes place."

I clicked on the link, but it's just generic info on pop/smtp server setups.

I will look into this second Hello.

Hope it works.

Thanks !
