Setting up IONOS E-Mail on Outlook for Mac

I have a number of IONOS e-mail addresses which I am trying to set up on my MacBook in Outlook for Mac (version 16.38).

I enter the e-mail address and select "Continue" and attached screen comes up. I enter password but after I select "Add Account" I get message saying "unable to sign in".

Can anyone help or tell me how to be able to access a full set-up input screen on Outlook for Mac so that I can try that I can try that

While the server names you mention should work, try changing to imap.ionos.com and smtp.ionos.com to see if that makes a difference. Make sure you do not check the box labeled "Require login using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" becsause Ionos doesn't support that. Do you have two-factor authentication enabled for the account?

Thanks Brian, I have tried ionos.co.uk and ionos.com and neither work. I can't see the SPA box to ensure this isn't checked and I don't have two-factor authentication enabled.

IONOS have confirmed settings I should use but said the others should work as well. To give a bit more background I had a security issue with one of my e-mails (I have 12 different ones with IONOS) and IONOS advised me to change the password. I decided to change all the passwords which I have successfully done on the webmail, on my iMac, iPhone and a couple of other devices. When I came to the MacBook I had some IONOS e-mails already set up on Outlook which had been working before I changed password.I decided to start again and deleted all these but then was not able to set any up again, getting the message in my original post. I Have contacted Microsoft because I think the issue rests with Outlook and also IONOS but so far no joy. I am surprised there does not appear to be an option anywhere on Outlook to set up an e-mail account manually rather than 'trying to do it for you' which is great when it works but not otherwise.

According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/add-..., you should be able to alter the settings after Outlook configures them manually.

I accidentally marked the issue as resolved.

Thanks Brian, if I am following that correctly then you are only able to alter the settings after Outlook has set up what it thinks. Unfortunately, Outlook is not setting account up to start with so there is nothing to alter. If I can't resolve this I shall have to look at alternatives. I switched to Outlook because it offers a suitable set up than Apple Mail for me.

Hi Dal,

This is Marc, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user just like you.

Can you try to change the Outgoing port to 587 and see if it will make a difference?

You can also try the server settings on the link below if the 1and1 is not working after you tried to login using the port 587.

Hi Dal,

If that's the case then let's try to see from the other experts if they have a solution for this.

I hope the issue gets resolved soon. Thank you.

Regards,
Marc

Thanks Marc, I have tried all these various options with no success and then this morning it has suddenly worked, at least on the two email accounts I have tried so far !! No idea why, I haven't knowingly done anything different, fingers crossed the others work when I get time to try them later

Just had a big fight with these settings myself.

If you are in the UK try this as is what ultimately worked for me -

imap.ionos.co.uk

993

SSL/TLS

No SPA

smtp.ionos.co.uk

465

SSL/TLS

No SPA

Hope this helps someone as the overall experience of finding this out was shockingly poor.
