#1 - What was the original account configured as POP3 or IMAP? If POP3, you need to configure it manually

#2 - To get to manual settings, enter the email address, click on the line right underneath where you enter the email address to configure the account manually (don't have access to Outlook at the moment to provide the exact text underneath the email address box - sorry)

Are you using 2-factor authentication with Gmail? If so, at this time you need to use an app password in Outlook - it won't ask for the second factor.

Hello MindyThomas -

First, Is IMAP turned on for your Gmail account? If not, go into your Gmail settings, under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Just make sure IMAP is enabled.

Once you have confirmed IMAP is on, we can setup a new account in Outlook 2016.

1. Click "File"
2. Click "Add Account"
3. Select "Manual Setup or Additional Server types"
4. Fill out your information and put this information in:
Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com

For you username, don't include @gmail.com (or whatever Google domain you
use)

5. Click "More settings" and go to the "Outgoing Server" tab
6. Check the box that says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
7. Choose the radio button that says "Use same settings as my incoming mail server."
8. Click "Advanced Tab"
9. Put in the following information:

Incoming server (IMAP): 993 or 143
Incoming server encrypted connection: SSL
Outgoing server (SMTP): 465 or 587
Outgoing server encrypted connection: TLS or Auto

10. Click "OK" when finished

That should be it. Your new Outlook Gmail account should work properly now. You can remove the old, non-functioning Gmail account from Outlook.

I hope that helps!
