Set up a new email account in Office/Outlook 365.

I cannot setup an account on MS Office 365/Outlook for my charter-business exchange email account.

I have logged on to the email account on webmail and can send and receive email.

Setup used per Charter-business.net

IMAP: exchange.charter-business.net Port 993  SSL/TSL

SMTP: smtp.charter-business.net Port 587 SSL/TS Required Logon ( SPA) checked.

Password verified correct

Error message:  Could't connect to the outgoing (SMTP) server using the specified encryption method.

I have tried all the encryption options and they either hang up or produce another error message.

I have Tried using Port 143 instead of 993.

HELP!

Answer
Hi Chuck,
Are you supposed to use IMAP? If it's exchange, you would typically let outlook add it as an exchange account, using auto account setup.

>> Required Logon ( SPA) checked.
Did they tell you to use this? Most servers do not support it.

>> I have Tried using Port 143 instead of 993.
This would apply only to incoming mail, not SMTP.

If incoming mail is working, click More Settings and on the Outgoing server tab, make sure you have it ticked to use the incoming username and password for the SMTP. If you don't see that option, try adding the account in Control panel > Mail.
