Outlook - profiles, password changes

Hello,

The fundamental questions are:

  1. How do you change passwords in 2016 Microsoft Office Professional Plus, as there are potentially three places in profile, control panel, and repair?
  2. What is the purpose of multiple profiles?...advantages and disadvantages
  3. If you have multiple profiles, each with a separate email account, do all the emails show up in Outlook if you are only using one profile?
  4. I believe the simplest solution is to delete my email accounts within Outlook and then change the passwords at the Web.com and then add in the email accounts within Outlook (if I do this, will I lose my history, addresses…and so on)

Background

I have three web domains at Web.com and email addresses attached to each (I will call the email accounts “1,” “2,” and “3.”

  • I use “2016 Microsoft Office Professional Plus”
  • I changed passwords on all three accounts at Web.com
  • I tried using the traditional way of changing passwords: File > Account Settings > Change, but this did not work as you get a different dialogue box
  • I attempted to use File > Account Settings > Repair  and force change the password and was able to do so on one of the email accounts (number 1), but not on either 2 or 3

Problem 2 - Issues

  • Outlook is still using the old passwords for (even though they are changed at Web.com)
  • The email to and from the above two email accounts still works, but number 2 has lost its history of sent and received
  • If I log into Web.com webmail, neither email account 2 or 3 has any mail (even though my Outlook shows normal for 2 and no history for 3
  • Number 1 email account (new password changed in repair) works in webmail and shows all current to and sent emails

Manage Profiles

  • I tried changing the passwords through “Manage Profiles” and it does not work

File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > Email Accounts

This is different from the 2010 way of going: File > Account Settings

  • When I tried going back to reenter the old passwords for email accounts 2 and 3, Web.com does not accept them as they do not match the new password criteria

Control Panel

Changing passwords at Control panel >mail seems to be the same as,

File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > Email Accounts (neither worked)

Summary

  • Outlook is using the old passwords, even though the passwords were changed at Web.com
  • Email still functions normally
  • I am not sure how to change the email passwords in Outlook to get them to match what is at Web.com
  • It may be best to delete the email accounts within Outlook and then redo them

Thanks,

Going to deal with the simple things first to get them out of the way

4. I believe the simplest solution is to delete my email accounts within Outlook and then change the passwords at the Web.com and then add in the email accounts within Outlook (if I do this, will I lose my history, addresses…and so on)
<<

Would be hard pressed to suggest this as either necessary or the "simplest" especially if involving IMAP accounts containing folders labeled as "This Computer Only" with data you want to retain

>>
2. What is the purpose of multiple profiles?...advantages and disadvantages
<<

Suggest you pose that as a separate thread rather then muddy things up and make this an unnecessarily long thread

>>
3. If you have multiple profiles, each with a separate email account, do all the emails show up in Outlook if you are only using one profile?
<<

Only one profile is used at a time and the only email that is involved is that for the email account configured in that profile

>>Control Panel
Changing passwords at Control panel >mail seems to be the same as,
File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > Email Accounts (neither worked)
<<

Nothing more then getting to the same place via different methods
Control Panel
