Outlook for Mac and Apple Preview

Trying to use Outlook for Mac on my MacBook Pro 13" Retina.  Unfortunately a feature I use often is the Mac Preview of attachments and scanned documents that I need to email out.   Every time I change my default email program for Mail for Mac to Outlook for Mac I loose the ability in Preview/Share to email anything with Outlook for Mac.

The first picture is with Mail as the default mail client,  the second picture is with Outlook for Mac as the default mail client.

If you want a preview of an attachment, select the attachment name by clicking it, then press the space bar once.
Be sure to include the version number and OS version when asking your question.

Jim

I want to EMAIL out of Preview using Outlook for Mac, look closely at the photos provided previously.  The option to SHARE by EMAIL out of Preview using Outlook for Mac is not available when Outlook for Mac is the default mail client.

Would love to know as well.  Please consider this still an open question.

Apple has a post on this in general, after upgrading to both Yosemite and El Capitan, some extension preferences are lost.  See https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21931?locale=en_US

But, in my case, this did not help -- and I don't think it will for others either.

Microsoft -- do you expect that people can use, in Apple's Preview.app, the share button to email via Outlook, as we are normally able to do with Apple's Mail.app?

Hi

Thanks for clarifying. Preview is an application made by Apple. It comes with Mac OS. Microsoft has no control over the design of Preview.app.

Apple does not allow Preview to send anything to Microsoft Outlook. Apple does not provide an Automator action to allow Preview to send to Outlook. Preview has an extremely limited AppleScript dictionary. I did not see a way to make an AppleScript to have Preview generate a new email message in Outlook.

The company you should be asking these questions of is Apple. Apple Discussions is a place to get started on this. Apple does not list Preview as an app for which they are currently taking suggestions at their suggestion site:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Be sure to include the version number and OS version when asking your question.

Hey Jim (long time, no talk)

I'm on my phone right now, and can't verify, but I'm 80% sure that there are other third party apps that do provide services to Preview (in particular to share).

While I agree that Apple should be the one to answer why this is so lame, and not just automatically following the lead of the default mail application setting, it would be great if MS could get the answer for all the users rather than one at a time us asking Apple. ;)

Thx,

Neil
