Outlook attachments are opening automatically and the user does not want this to happen

Exchange 2010

Outlook 2010

W10

All email attachments automatically open when viewing email. User does not want this to happen. User does not want the attachments to automatically download either.

Steps I've taken:

To reset the default behavior so that Outlook will prompt you to open or save the file type, perform the following steps:
1.Open the Control Panel Folder Options applet.
2.Select the File Types tab.
3.Scroll down to the extension type that you want to reset.
4.Select the extension type, then click Advanced.
5.Check the "Confirm open after download" check box, then click OK.
6.Click Close to the Folder Options dialog box.

User reports this does not resolve her issue.

Answer

Hi Stacy,

Outlook currently does not have any options to download attachments automatically. A modification of the software might have enabled the said action. You may find this article helpful. However, we need to determine if the issue may have something to do with your email account or with the application itself. Since you are using an Exchange account, we advise posting your query in our TechNet forum for better assistance. Exchange accounts have its own settings which are more complex than what is typically answered here in Microsoft Community.

Just to add, we have IT Pros in our TechNet forum that can provide you with the most appropriate solution and the best advice on how to go about this issue.

Should you need further help with other concerns in the future, you're always welcome to post back.
