"Other Storage" and remaining used storage

I am wondering how do I clear the "other" in my Outlook. com web account.

I currently have an empty Inbox, however, in the Storage Dashboard, it shows I am using about 9.3% of storage space.

I have cleared, emptied everything and there is no "other" option to delete.

Any suggestions?

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Volunteer. I am here to help.
I am also using Outlook.com. Let us work together to sort this out.

To free up more space , go to deleted items folder and delete the emails that are in deleted items folder.

To delete them , Press CTRL + A to select the emails at once then press Shift+ Delete to delete the emails permanently.

Once done, on the deleted items folder you will see "Recoverable items"
Click that and recover all the emails , once you recovered them you will do the same CTRL + A to select the emails and Shift + Delete to delete the emails permanently

While performing the steps you need to wait especially when selecting email and deleting them.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

With Warm Regards,
Rhaine C.

Hi Rhaine,

Thank you for your response.  Everything is deleted even the recoverable email area is empty as well.  The Inbox and all the folders do not contain any emails or attachments at all.  There must be something wrong with my account.

I logged into another Outlook.com account of mine and I was able to delete all the emails and the folders, no problem at all.

Greetings,

I appreciate your time in getting back to this thread, if the steps did not work, no worries since this is an open forum, we can ask assistance from other community volunteers about their feedback and suggestion with this issue.

For the meantime check other folders like conversation history , archive folders, check all the folders if there are still emails left in those folder.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

With Warm Regards,
Rhaine C.

Other should be called other folders.

Your second account picture showed Folders and listed a folder.

Is Folders visible below the Upgrade message?

Hi Ron,

There are other folders as well in the 1st picture with the "Other" storage.  However, they are empty and I am unable to delete or empty out the folders by clicking on the "Empty".

On the 2nd picture of the previous post, when I clicked on the "Empty" Button, it cleared and deleted the folder and reclaimed the space.

However, this Outlook account does not, it seems to be broken.  See below.  The "Other" space being used as well as the Inbox, Conversation and Archive and there is nothing in the folders.

This is a new feature.

Clicking Empty for the Deleted items folder empties the folder and puts the emails in the recovery 'folder'.

The space used does not change until the recovery 'folder' is emptied.

It seems strange that there are two Inbox folders listed.

This list of folders does not distinguish between folders and sub-folders.

Go to the folder pane and go through each of your folders.

I don't see the purpose of having two empty email accounts.

Ron,

Thanks for your response.

The recovery folder is completely empty.  All the folders are empty, I do not have any messages at all.  However, there is storage being used probably from old emails that aren't being deleted.

This particular Outlook.com account of mine isn't performing as it is intended.

Here is where the original problem occurs and I noticed the "other" taking up space in Storage.  Under the Files Tab on Outlook.com, there is an attachment view.

https://outlook.live.com/files/0/

This would show all your attachments in your email.  And of course, it should be empty if you do not have any emails in your mailbox.  Correct?  However, I have leftover metadata that is being shown of emails and attachments that were deleted many years ago.  This concerns due to privacy issues and the fact, delete command should be delete command and delete the messages and attachments.  I am wondering if this issue is taking up space in the "other" storage.

The reason I have two empty Inbox's is because I'm moving my email to another platform.  One Inbox (with the problems) was converted from a Hotmail account and the other one was created straight to a Outlook.com email)  I still use Microsoft for other things but trusting Microsoft with my emails has diminished.  I want to make sure I don't have any information left behind.

Also, it's the same Inbox, I snipped it at the wrong level and those folders are suppose to disappear once they are empty.  I tested it on the working Outlook.com account and they disappear.

I'm wondering if Microsoft can do a full hard reset of my Outlook.com mailbox as well.  I think that would solve the problem since I don't have any items in it.

Any help trying to contact a software engineer would be great as well.

Attachments aren't stored in the mailbox, they are on the original message or in onedrive. It's also not accurate - i should attachments that i deleted a long time ago.

You don't - and if you do, it will be deleted within 45 days (if any is in the deleted folders) and in one you if you don't visit outlook.com within a year.

Did you delete calendar and contacts? And tasks?

You can ask in-app help, but don't be surprised if they say no.
Log into Outlook.com on the web using a PC or Mac.

Click the ? icon to open the Help menu.

Type a question. Scroll to the end of the research results and click Yes for Still need help?.

Did you delete everything - including calendar and contacts?

On a hard reset, I'm pretty sure they cannot do that, but no one in this forum works for Microsoft or has access to your account and we definitely cannot do it. You need to ask in-app support.

Diane,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, everything is deleted in my Outlook.com account is deleted but I still have "other" storage still being used and metadata from deleted emails from years ago still being shown under the Files section.

The in-app is pretty ineffective it is just an email back and forth with a Microsoft random tech support and each tech is just kicking the can down the road.  It's frustrating.

Oh I know the forum is volunteer based but just wondering if anyone had this problem and if they ever solved it.

Thanks for your help.
