Open all Outlook emails in a separate window

The reading pane in the new Outlook is far too small. Many Web-based emails show up too small to be readable. Can I set the new Outlook to open and read all received emails in a separate window?
Hi jjwriter,

If you are using the new interface of Outlook.com, you can manage the mail option by following the steps below:

  1. Click Settings icon.
  2. Choose Options.
  3. Under Layout, click Reading pane and you select your preference.

If this still doesn't suit your preference,  double-clicking the email would open a new window. We suggest that you try to only click it once to open the email on the Reading pane.

If you require any further information, feel free to let us know.

Regards.

Thanks for the Reply. UNFORTUNATELY you do not seem to be using the same version of Outlook that showed up on my computer, without my knowledge or consent. It seems Microsoft simply rolled out its beta as an active version, giving me no choice but to use it. I do NOT have the same menu choices under the Settings icon that you do. Under Settings on the version with which I have been mysteriously provided, I can drill down through the following: Settings icon/View Full Settings link/Customize Actions. This does allow me to select an icon to open the incoming email in a separate window. This icon will appear once I have already opened an email (and many of these emails are apparently being auto-resized by the program to fit the too-small Reading Pane and appear waaaay too small to read). I can also use a drop-down menu to select an option that opens the too-small email in a separate window. If I can execute the command to view in a separate window by TWO methods (icon or drop-down selection), I am asking if there is some way that I can set the program to open all selected incoming emails in a separate window BY DEFAULT.
Thank you for your time and patience.
JJ

Thank for your response. You can still go back to the classic version of Outlook.com. You just need to select the Outlook beta toggle at the top right corner of the screen and turn it off. Check this link for more information.

For any other concerns, don't hesitate to get back to us.

Nope. I appreciate your willingness to respond, but this is getting tiresome. There is no toggle in the upper right hand corner of the Outlook screen I am viewing, and therefore, I cannot use the non-existent toggle to get rid of this new version of Outlook that was pushed out to me without my knowledge or consent. All I really want to do is change a default in the new program so that, when I open an email to read it, it defaults to "open in a separate window." There is a menu selection for that, so there is no reason why I should not be able to set a default to do that automatically. Why would I want to do that? Because, as I have explained, some emails sent by Web programs are being automatically resized in the new Outlook's Reading pane. They become so small that I can't read them, and that's really a "pane," if you will pardon the pun.

Thank you for your feedback. Classic Outlook.com cannot be reverted back anymore since it has more responsive web development framework that delivers an upgraded search feature. A smarter inbox, better personalization, additional updates will be rolled out over the next few months, including updates to Calendar and People. Please see Get help with the Outlook.com beta, and if your issue isn’t mentioned there, let us know.

For any other concerns, don't hesitate to get back to us.
