Office Outlook 365 LinkedIn Connector broken on Windows desktop application

Description of problem:

LinkedIn connection contact card and contact linking doesn't work and contact cards lack LinkedIn option although the connector is enabled in Outlook settings.

Linked in contact cards still function when logged into the web interface on https://www.office.com/

Problem has persisted for several weeks on clients computer.

Client runs Office 365 Work license.

Keywords:

LinkedIn connector broken, Linked In extension bug, Linked in doesn't work, LinkedIn contact cards are broken, Outlook LinkedIn Social Connector broken, Where is the LinkedIn contact linking?, Outlook LinkedIn Integration broken

Replication:

Unknown. Only occurred once.

Actions that doesn't resolve it:

  • Quick repairing Office 365 installation
  • Complete uninstall and reinstall
  • Creating a new Outlook profile
  • Removing all Outlook profiles
  • Cleaning the complete office install using the Microsoft Uninstall Office tool and reinstalling
  • Deleting registry entries associated with Microsoft Office
  • Disabling all addon/extensions in Outlook enabling only Outlook Social Connector 2016
  • Deleting Office profile PST and OST files, re-downloading them from Microsoft servers

What does work:

  • Installing Office 365 on another computer and adding the Outlook account there.

Remaining untested:

  • Reinstalling Windows 10
  • Windows system restore
  • Outlook log files, that show errors?

Discussion:

I suspect the problem is related to a hidden registry setting that the uninstall procedure leaves behind that leaves the addon Outlook Social Connector 2016 non functioning even though it is enabled.

Any suggestions on possible solutions to this problem are greatly appreciated!

Hi Nick,
In File > Office Account > Manage settings, is Connected Experiences enabled? That is required for this and other online services to work.

Thank you for the response Diane

All the available Connected Experiences privacy options are checked to share data.

Do you have any other possible suggestions?

I know that disabling connected services will affect it, the social connector will not - LinkedIn was removed from the social connector years ago.

Which version and build of Outlook are you using? See File, Office Account for the information.

Go to Manage LinkedIn account associations and verify it is linked.

I would also untick it in options and retick it.

It's linked on https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=868161

LinkedIn buttons on contact cards functions normally server-side when logged in on https://www.office.com/ and in the outlook desktop client on other computers. It is only this  Windows 10 client where it occurs.

Using the latest updated version as of typing this:

Outlook 365 2002 (version 12527.20242)

Tried toggling unticking, restarting and reticking and disabling and re-enabling the social connector plugin as well with no dice.

I think I resolved it myself. The problem is not in the connected email account but in the connected office account. These are two separate things. What worked for me was logging out of the office account and logging in again.

Solution:

1. Launch Microsoft Excel or Word (Not Outlook, the option is not there)

2. Click the top right of the bar to log out of your office account.

3. Now click it again but log in.

4. Make sure that the Office account is the same as the email account in Outlook.

5. Make sure that the email addresses are identical. I.e. if you have any dots in the address for the other remove them.

Hope this helps in case this occurs for anyone else!

Try unticking the connected services, restart outlook, then re-enable them and restart outlook again - i had services not working yesterday (that i knew required connected services) even though the options were ticked and that fixed it.
