My 50 GB mailbox full,

Increase mailbox size in Microsoft 365

There are two ways to increase the max mailbox size for a user:

  • Assign an Exchange Online Plan 2 license to the mailbox. This will increase the mailbox storage limit from 50 GB to 100 GB.

  • Enable Exchange Online Archiving. Depending on your Microsoft 365 license, this will either give you additional 50 GB of space or nearly unlimited space with the auto-expanding archiving feature.

Increasing the maximum quota is not the only way to make more space available in mailboxes. It’s like with your standard hard drives – you can either get a new, larger one, or free up some of the used space. Exchange Online allows you to use retention policies to either retain or delete data automatically, based on the criteria you specify.

I would like to Assign an Exchange Online Plan 2 license to the mailbox. This will increase the mailbox storage limit from 50 GB to 100 GB.

You posted this at the same time I posted my earlier reply. Sign in to Microsoft 365 as an administrator. Purchase Exchange Online Plan 2 license and assign it to the mailbox.

Good day,

To assign an Exchange Online Plan 2 license to a mailbox in Microsoft 365, follow these steps:

Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and log in to your account.

Click on the "Users" tab, then select the user whose mailbox size you want to increase.

Click on the "Edit" button next to the user's name.

In the "Edit user" window, scroll down to the "Licenses" section and click on the "Assign" button next to the "Exchange Online Plan 2" license.

Click on the "Save" button to save your changes.

After you have completed these steps, your mailbox size will be increased from 50 GB to 100 GB. This will give you more storage space for their email messages and other data.

You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to increase the storage limit for a personal email account in Microsoft 365 the way you are trying to do. The Exchange Online Plan 2 license and other features, such as Exchange Online Archiving, are only available for users with a work or school account. Personal email accounts do not have access to these features.

If you have a personal email account with Microsoft 365, the maximum storage limit for your mailbox is 50 GB. You can use the tools in Microsoft 365, such as the Storage Analyzer, to manage your mailbox and free up space by deleting unnecessary emails and other data.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to a paid plan that offers more storage space for your personal email account. For example, the Microsoft 365 Personal plan includes 100 GB of storage for your mailbox, as well as other features like Office apps and online storage. You can learn more about the different plans and pricing options on this website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ww/microsoft-365/b...

To purchase Exchange Online (Plan2), you need a work or school email address.

A Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription cannot be upgraded.
