MICROSOFT please remove the sidebar with the icons to the left from outlook.

Also I would like to know what user research you did that made you think this was a great idea. Or do most people love it and it's just me that would prefer just to be able to view and respond to emails from the email inbox page?

If it is such a great idea not why not add a pile more so that the screen is so busy I'm forced to use another email app?

Hi Joanne! This is Raech. I'm an Outlook.com user like you and I'm here to help.

I understand that you have some preference regarding the design layout of Outlook.com, particularly the sidebar menu. While there is no option to disable or hide this from view, the best we can do for now is to submit a direct feedback to Microsoft so we can voice out our suggestions.

Tap the ? icon at the top right of your Outlook page and select Feedback at the bottom.

Disclaimer: This is a public user-to-user community forum. None of us here work for Microsoft and it is beyond our capability to assist directly with account or login-related issues.

Sincerely,
Raech C.

You can easily make the layout adjustable so customers who want different layouts can arrange as needed. This is almost a standard UX design feature on basic website design & applications, microsoft should have the capability to provide this.

The recent relocation of delete, flag, etc. icons from outlook pers email made it inconvenient for users, and the removal of the icons further exasperated options that were previously available. There are 2 months of user feedback online showing how many people are unhappy about this, action could have been taken to reverse the issues caused within days. There was no need to increase inconvenience.

An adjustable interface is also an option.

I just encountered this feature today and would like the ability to control its display.

I really don't like the positioning at all and there is a bunch of white space that is unused under the sixth icon. I would say 75% plus of the sidebar is blank? So the remainder of the useful information on screen essentially the email listings and email text has less room to display?

Please add a toggle or way to remove in settings.

Thank you for your consideration

That new feature is disrupting the way we use Outlook in a simple manner.

It takes away screen surface that we need for other things.

When it was at the bottom, we were able to use it directly and = no problem.

Now it is in our face and all for nothing because it is just taking up space on out screen.

That's another thing that Microsoft just do that don't have any added value to what we need as users.

And it again is done without getting the customer input before implementing this kind of non-sense.

Many of us use any Microsoft products for "productivity".

And it seems that Microsoft is working hard to make sure we lose more and more productivity.

Besides being annoying, the bar also overlaps the top menu - with each restart, it's moving about randomly.

A disable feature would be infinitely useful.

Open Powershell (don't know if u need elevated rights) and enter this line.

New-ItemProperty HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides -Name Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar -Value false -PropertyType string -force

This'll remove the sidebar.

I tried this in a powershell but it didn't like the command, however this did help me to locate the regedit on my machine under Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides, where I then just changed the value for the hub bar to false.

Thanks for the input, this worked for me

I used Registry Editor, selected the path Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides (which was empty). I then created a STRING key with name (Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar) and value (false) ... restarted Outlook and that annoying bar overlapping my menu bar was finally gone ... hopefully to never return.

Thank you. Worked for me too!
