I got a new phone and Microsoft Authenticator is not working

Hi, what does "Sign in to your Microsoft account on your new phone" mean in the text below? I have an iPhone and I am signed in to both OneDrive and Outlook on the phone. I have tried the steps below before and it is not working.

Hello

I am Abdal and I would be glad to help you with your question.

To update your two-step authenticator on your new phone, you will need to transfer the account to your new device. Here are the steps you can follow:

Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone.

Sign in to your Microsoft account on your new phone.

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone.

Tap the plus icon (+) to add an account.

Use your phone camera to scan the QR code displayed on the website or app you're trying to sign in to, or enter the code manually.

Verify the notification that appears on your old device, and then tap Approve.

This should transfer your two-step authenticator to your new phone and allow you to access your OneDrive account without waiting for 30 days.

I hope this information helps.

Regards,

Abdal

Hello Mats, thanks for coming into forums. I'm Myk, an Independent Advisor and I'll be more than happy to help you. Can you please provide more details about Authenticator app that isn't working? Is it not allowing you to add your account in it? Are you trying to use the code within Authenticator app, but it's not allowing you to login? Or something else (please describe further)? Just to confirm, are you using a personal email account? Or it's a work/school provided email? If you're using a Work/School provided Email, you will need to contact the IT Admin of the organization to remove the previous Authenticator setup in your account. That way, you can set it up to your new phone. You may also try the steps below: 1. Sign in to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/ 2. On the Security info page, select the Delete link next to the Authenticator app. 3. Select Yes when asked to confirm to delete the authenticator app. After the authenticator app is deleted, it's removed from your security info and it disappears from the Security info page. If the authenticator app is your default method, the default changes to another available method. If you require any further information, then please don’t hesitate to get in contact. I will be more than happy to assist you further. Kind Regards, Myk

Hi Myk, I use the Authenticator app for 6 accounts. Two personal Microsoft accounts (mine and my mothers who I help), one Google, one NordVPN account, one GitHub account. I also use it for my work account, but it is not a work phone and I have full administrative rights on it. I was able to switch to the new phone for my mother's account and it works fine for all accounts except my own. My account has no password and two-way authentication is on.

If I follow your suggested steps 1-3, will this only affect my personal account and the app on my old phone?

Regards,

Mats

Hello Mats, Yes, it will only affect the personal account. That way, you can re-configure the Authenticator app for your account. Kind regards, Myk

When I go to the link, it wants me to put a number into the authenticator app. I can't log onto the authenticator app. I got a new phone. I was able to login to get my emails, but then I couldn't do other things. I have already turned in my old phone, so I can't use it to get a verification code from my old phone. Help!

Hello,

I had my phone stolen and now have a new mobile device I am attempting to set up with Microsoft authenticator. I am attempting to log into my microsoft accounts on my computer, but cannot do so without the authenticator, and I cannot login into authenticator without the old device, which i do not have access to. Is there an alternative way to access my accounts?
