How to remove Summary Card for events at top of Outlook email?

I have a user who gets flight information via email.  These emails now contain a "Summary Card" of what Microsoft thinks is relevant information in a pane at the top of the email.  The problem is that the user is not able to view the original email unless they forward the email to themselves, thus loosing the "Summary Card".

They have tried to turn off the "add events from emails" in order to suppress these automatically created "Summary Cards" as well as disable the automatic adding of the event to their calendar.  However, the event is still added to their calendar on their desktop Outlook and the "Summary Card" will not go away.

Is there a way to completely remove this feature?  The user does not want a summary card of the event at the top of their flight / hotel / reservation emails, nor do they want the event to be automatically added to their calendar.

Hi Tanya,

It's possible that the feature or option you're looking for is not available. To better assist you, we'd like to ask the following questions:

  • Are you accessing the account through browser or through Outlook Mail App?
  • Have you made any recent changes in the email settings prior to the issue?
  • Are you getting any error messages while trying to remove the summary card?

We look forward to your response.

The user has accessed the account both through the browser (Outlook Web App) and on their desktop.

They have not made any recent changes in the email settings prior to the issue.

They are not getting any error messages because there is not a readily obvious option to remove the summary card.

I sent them instructions on "How to stop auto-generated calendar and events".  It recommended logging into the OWA (Outlook Web App) and going to the App settings > Events from Email and unchecking Flights.  This is what he responded to me with:

I followed these instructions and disabled the auto generation of events on the online outlook but the outlook on my desktop continues to auto generate calendar events.

From what I can tell, the online setting only prevents it from “adding the events to the calendar” but I guess it does not suppress showing the irritating event in the email. I checked the email message both online and on the desktop to see if there is a difference and there wasn’t.

The user explains that the Summary card still shows at the top of the email even after unchecking Flights.

They do not want to see the summary at the top pane of the email at all.  They have to forward this email to themselves in order to better view the original email from the airlines, which is in the second bottom pane of the email in the screen shot above.'

I need to know if there is a way to keep the email from displaying the summary card at the top with the calendar event?

It seems that you've already performed all possible steps that could remove the summary card from displaying on top of the actual email. On the same page where you instructed them to go to, have they already tried ticking Don't add events to my calendar from email? See image below.

If yes, and the notification is still present, it means we don't have an option yet to remove the notification. We suggest that you submit your feedback or suggestion about what you'd like to see with Outlook. Visit Outlook.UserVoice.com and sign in with your Microsoft account to leave your feedback.

Yes, the user has selected "Don't add events to my calendar from email".

The summary card still appears at the tops of the event emails and the events are still be added to the calendar on Outlook desktop.
