How To Reinstall Outlook Desktop (formerly Outlook Office)

Hello,

I would appreciate a pointer to a simple step by step procedure for restoring my Outlook desktop application.

After backing up all my *.pst files, I reset my windows 11 Pro laptop (Yoga c940) for a clean reinstall. I downloaded the Outlook application from my MS 365 subscription (family) and attempted to launch and reinstall. Instead I am met with challenges for a 365 email address and password. The challenge does not recognize the email I use for my MS account (which is a private domain) and the account password.

My first question is do I have to create a new 365 email address and password simply to install Outlook desktop? If so, can anyone explain why?

I use POP and manage all of my email locally in *pst files. I simply want to be able to restore this functionality without keeping everything in the cloud.

I currently host my domain with Google (although this is moving) and use gmail servers for my email. At this time I do not want to move to Outlook.com for email service.

Is this possible and, if so, can someone please point me to step by step explanation without being forced to migrate to Outlook.com or cloud based email apps?

Thank you for your assistance,

RF

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today. >> My first question is do I have to create a new 365 email address and password simply to install Outlook desktop? If so, can anyone explain why? >> If you do that, you will need to buy office again. What is the exact error message? Can you post a screenshot? You can log into https://account.microsoft.com/services with your address? And that is the address you are trying to use to activate office? Let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you further if needed. -- Diane
