Hi jamesnelli,

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest that you optimize your browser to ensure that this is not contributing to the issue. Please refer to this link

If the optimization did not resolve the issue, please reply to this post with the following information:
>Does the issue occur when using different browsers?
>Does the issue occur when using a different computer?
>Does the issue occur when using a different account?

Follow the steps below on How to attach file.

  1. On your mailbox, select New
  2. Under the toolbar icon, click the clip icon (and it will open a new window where you can find the file that you want to attach)

You can check the settings of the attachment by following the steps below.

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Go to your Inbox
  3. Click on Options on the upper right hand corner and select More options.
  4. Under Writing email, select Attachments
  5. From there you can select from these three options
  •    Always send files using SkyDrive
  •    Always send files as attachments
  •    Let Hotmail choose (use SkyDrive for large attachments and Office docs)

I hope this will help you.

If issue still persists, let us know.

Thank you.

No, this does not help at all.  I do not want to send a picture as an attachment, nor using SkyDrive.  I specifically asked how to insert a picture into an Outlook e-mail, but this reply did not answer my question.  It is as if I had asked the question, "How do I bake a cake?" and I received a reply to the question, "Why is the sky blue?"

Now that I have read a number of replies from 'Forum Moderators' to this same question asked by others, I realize that the mods are not very good at understanding questions.  Is there anyone out there who understands simple English (because these mods sure don't seem to....).

Upload the picture to Skydrive.  Make sure the picture is in a public folder.

Right click on the image, View original.
Right click the image then "Copy."
Go back to the browser where you are composing the email and paste the image by pressing "Ctrl" and "v."

I do not want to add an attachment.  I want to insert a picture into the
body of the mail, along with the text.

Hello Glen,

Sorry for not replying on a timely manner. I recognized that you want to insert photos on the body of the email and not as an attachment. Allow me to help you on your query.

I want to confirm if the photos you want to include in the body of the email are saved on your computer or pictures coming from web.

If you're referring to the pictures from web, you can just simply copy and paste the pictures on the composing page of Outlook.com. However, if the pictures you want to insert are saved on your computer, this option is not available. If you want to send a suggestions straight to our product team, kindly send us feedback on this link.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
Ken – Senior Support Specialist

No!  It did not work.  Opening it in Sky drive, then viewing the original, then copying the
original, then pasting into your mail, does work.

I've managed to insert the picture in the mail, however it does not show up
in the recipient's mail.  All they get is a space for the picture with a red X in it.

I have the same issue concerning embedding an image into the body of the email. I have an image that I'm using for save the date email for my wedding coming up and an attachment does not have the same effect. Outlook.com have far too many disadvantages compared to their competitors. Gmail lets you do all of this without thinking and that is how is how it should be. No need to copy and paste anything from a sky drive or open paint or get it from the web. Just simple copy and paste! Done.

I'm going to leave feedback for Microsoft but I also wanted to note it here.
