Hello Andrew_P_Grant1970,
I am glad to help you here.
First, may I double confirm what "disable auto archive" means? Do you mean turn off the auto-archive which you enabled in the past? If so, you could follow the instruction via Set up Outlook 365 auto archive to un-tick the option "Run AutoArchive every in days" to turn it off.
Moreover, if you want to permanently disable auto-archive ( means cannot enable it or change the settings), in this case if you are using Microsoft 365 for enterprise Outlook Client, you could use Group Policy (GPO) to disable Auto Archive then the all the settings under Auto-Archive will be greyed out.
Please feel free to share with me if you need any further help, thanks.
Best Regards,
Oliver

Hello,
I have the same issue.
I am a systems administrator and I never set up auto-archiving for my users, however, many of my users are finding that their email is being automatically archived.
I have checked the archiving configuration in the compliance center and all of my users have it disabled.
We use Office 365 and Exchange online. The problem occurs on both MacOS and Windows devices.
Please let me know if you find a resolution for this!
Kind regards,
Suzi.

Go to Account Settings > Email > click on the account > Click Change. "Use Cashed Exchange Mode" is probably checked. If so, there is a slider beneath the checkbox that is set for 1 year by default. Move it all the way to the right and it will read "All".
Restart Outlook and you should be good. It may take a while to download everything.
This setting leaves older messages on the server instead of downloading them to your computer. So maybe they aren't "archived" as the helpful moderators pointed out, but the effect is the same every time you setup a new computer.
