how to delete multiple modcal calendars caused by iphone and mobileme syncing

When syncing with iphone and ipad using itunes, multiple empty 'modcal' calendars are created that cannot be deleted! After installing MobileMe, literally hundreds of 'modcal' calendars were created! They are useless and empty - but slow down Outlook to the point where it is useless. Resetting the folders upon startup of outlook does not render them 'deletable' - Anyone have a fix?
