How to backup entire mailbox with New Outlook

It was very simple with the Outlook 2019 and previous versions to simply export all of your data as a PST. However, since the New Outlook stores the messages as EMLs, I've found that there is no mass export option. I can only export one email message at a time.

I've simply been restoring back to Outlook 2019, exporting, and then flipping back to the New Outlook. But this isn't a sustainable option as Microsoft will eventually retire Outlook 2019 to continue with the New Outlook and its development. I haven't been able to find any documentation on this specific issue and I'm wondering if the feature, currently, simply does not exist at all. If it does, it would be very helpful to know how to do that.

I have considered that there will never be that option in order to increase the use of the Compliance (Microsoft Purview) features so that employees aren't able to extract company owned data. But regardless, just knowing what Microsoft's plan is in this regard would be extremely helpful.

If you use MS Outlook as a component of a current supported version of MS Office nothing has changed.

I suspect you are useing the Win Mail app, which is whey you see 'New Outlook'

Hi Palcouk,

No, I'm not using the Win Mail app. Part of the New Outlook and Microsoft 365 development stack is an application called msedgewebview2. It is essentially a lightweight web-based application structure, removing the necessity of a local application and moving towards an entirely cloud-based environment in regard to the Microsoft 365 Suite. When you open the New Outlook, it's essentially just the UI of going to your organization or personal OWA.

Hi NoOneCan,

I appreciate your feedback! I'm aware you can't use PSTs with the New Outlook, and I imagine that it is not a feature that will be developed due to the nature of the New Outlook being a lightweight web-based app. Additionally, the fact that the files are stored as EML is what enables the New Outlook to automatically integrate with Yahoo, Gmail, etc.

My question was more in regard to, what does Microsoft plan on doing for mass exportation of EML files? Is it something they plan on supporting, or is mass exportation of a mailbox going to be a thing of the past?

I recognize that you're a moderator, so you're just going off what Microsoft documentation you have access to, but I'm looking more for a Microsoft employee/developer who can give me some more technical/strategic insight on the plan for these legacy features moving forward with the New Outlook.

Thanks!
