Hi WilliamGage1,

Thank you for reaching out here at the Microsoft Community Forum.

We see that you have concerns about getting Outlook to remember your password. Let’s work on this together and we’ll assist you in the best way we can.

The general step to do this is to make sure that the option to remember the password of an account is selected or checked. However, the actual instructions on how this can be done would depend on which Outlook platform is being referred to. Please answer the following questions, so we can learn more about the situation and provide appropriate steps once we already gathered the necessary information:

1. Based on how the thread is tagged, are you referring to the Outlook.com website from a browser to remember your password? Or is it the Outlook desktop client?

2. If it’s the Outlook desktop client:

Which build/version of Office is installed on your device? Is it part of the Office/Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, or Business subscription? See this: About Office: What version of Office am I using?

3. Are you using a personal Outlook/Hotmail.com account or work/business account?

4. Are you using a Windows 10 PC or Mac device?

5. May we clarify if you’re having an issue remembering your password and still being prompted to enter it?

Once we got your answers and confirm the needed information, we’ll make sure to include our recommendations in our next reply. We’d love to hear from you soon.

Thanks for the information provided. We acknowledge that you’re using the Outlook desktop application on Windows 10 PC

Just to confirm, is there already an account added in your Outlook app? If yes, how was it configured? Is it POP, IMAP, or Exchange ActiveSync?

If you have an account set up as Exchange, you’ll just have to make sure that the Always prompt for logon credentials option is unticked or unchecked, so that the password is remembered in Outlook. Here are the steps on how this can be done:

1. Go to File > Info > Account Settings.

2. Under Account Settings > in the Email tab, select your email account and click Change.

3. Click More Settings.

4. Under the Security tab, verify Always prompt for logon credentials is unchecked. If not, you may uncheck it, then select Apply.

5. Close Outlook and re-open it.

If you have different settings or view on your end, you may share with us some screenshots so we can check it further and provide additional recommendations if needed. (see this: How to take and annotate screenshots on Windows 10 / Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots for the steps to get screenshots or use any applications available on your device that will allow you to capture screenshots and insert them in your next reply.)

Thanks for getting back to us. Since you’re using a POP account, can you check if the option to remember your password under the Account Settings in Outlook is checked? To go to this option, open Outlook, then go to the File tab > Account Settings. Make sure to select your account under the Email tab and click Change. You should see the Change Account window that will appear. From there, find the Remember password option and make sure that it’s checked. Once done, close Outlook and re-open to check if you’ll still be prompted for a password or not.

We’ve also found an article that may be the cause why Outlook is not saving or won’t remember the password if this is the issue that you’re having. You may check this: Outlook and other apps won't remember password after Windows Updates. You may try to perform the suggested workaround there and see if there’s any improvement.

By the way, since you have the Office 365 Family subscription, you also have the option to contact the Office Support team for immediate assistance. As part of the benefits of having the subscription, they can do remote sessions to check the actual settings of your computer. They can also provide extensive troubleshooting aside from the ones you’ve already tried on your end and the suggestions we’ve provided. To do so, you may click this: Contact Microsoft Support, then type your concern in the box, click on Get Help, then at the bottom part of the page, select Talk to an agent.

Please respond to this thread to let us know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform us by replying to this post.

Thanks for getting back to us, Bill. Would you be able to share a screenshot of what you’re getting on your end since you’ve confirmed that you’re getting the Change prompt? We’ll just need to check what it looks like on your and verify its actual view.

How about trying to chat with our Office Support team? They have the option to remotely check the setting on your end and assist you in real-time on how to sort this out.

At this point, we’re trying to identify the setting or options that you’re getting so we can determine the appropriate steps to be followed.

We’ll wait for your confirmation.

Best regards,

Louie

Thanks for your response. Noted that you’re unable to see and get the Change option. This is also the reason why we’re requesting some screenshots of what options or views you are getting on your end. This will help us identify which steps to recommend next if the previous one wouldn’t work. Here’s an image that shows on how you can insert screenshots/image in your next reply:

Another way to share it with us is through a OneDrive link. Once you already saved the screenshot that you’ve taken, you can already upload that to your OneDrive and share the link with us, so we’ll be able to view it using that format on our end. Here’s an article that you may use for that: Share OneDrive files and folders.

We’ve also provided the option to chat with our Office Support team since you have the Office 365 subscription wherein, they can do remote sessions and check the settings that you currently have. You may get in touch with them, as they can also provide real-time assistance.

To notify us and have us get back to you, simply reply to this post.

Best regards.

Louie
