How do I copy/paste text from error message in Windows 10

I am attempting to copy and paste the text from an error message, so I can do a search on the error. I feel like I used to be able to Ctrl-C with the pop up selected, then paste that. However, it is not working. So then I am following the instructions here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/889887/how-to-copy-the-text-of-an-error-message-into-a-text-editor

To copy the text of an error message into Notepad, follow these steps:

  1. When you receive an error message, press and hold down CTRL while you also press INSERT.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type notepad, and then click OK.
  3. On the Notepad Edit menu, click Paste. Or, right-click anywhere in the body of a new, blank Notepad document, and then click Paste.

My experience here is that I can copy an IMAGE of the error message into a document, but not the text alone.  When I try to copy into Notepad, it pastes either nothing, or the previous buffer.

Answer

You are not allways able to select the text section only in what is actually a picture.

Run an inplace Office repair (I'm assuming you have added/changed nothing)
