I don't have a question, but I may have a highly sought for solution to this unanswered but locked thread here:

Essentially, your Hotmail account set up in Mac Mail quits syncing and you get a dialog box that leads you to believe that your password is incorrect with the message "Unable to verify account name or password."
While that could be true and you should verify your problem is not a wrong password or 2-factor authentication, I have found that in my situation I needed to update the IMAP server setting.
The IMAP setting I have been using for a few years now used to be "imap-mail.outlook.com" but I found here in my Hotmail settings on outlook.live.com that it was recommended for me to use a new/different IMAP server.
After I switched to "outlook.office365.com" I was able to successfully send and receive mail again within the Apple Mail app on my Mac. Though I did have to close/exit and then reopen Mail one time for the setting to successfully propagate and then properly sync.
