Folder pane width can't be change

Hello,

I was able to slide the folder pane to the left, making it smaller but it doesn't work anymore in the new version of outlook, and the space between the folder pane and the message list suddenly looked a lot wider. Before, the unread count was always much closer to the folder names, and much of the intervening space wasn't there. I don't want to minimize the pane but only want to be able to customize the width of the pane as I was able to before. Could you please help me with this issue?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Maryam

Do you have Normal selected from the Folder Pane dropdown in the Layout section of the View tab of the ribbon

Here with Normal selected, I can then modify the width of the folder pane by clicking on the interface between it and the message list and dragging it either to the left or the right.  The number of unread messages remains right aligned at the right hand side of the Folder pane.

Hope this helps,

Hi Maryam,

May I know which Outlook version are you using, please provide us with the detailed information screenshot about this, see What version of Outlook do I have?

However, I have tested on my side using Office 365 Semi-Annual channel version 1908 build 11929.20752 but can’t replicate this behavior.

Moreover, please provide us with the detailed steps video/screenshot about the issue via the Private Message so that we can check and further assist you

Your patience and cooperation are highly appreciated.

Best regards,
Shyamal

Hi Alexey,

Thanks for the reply. Please capture the video/screenshot what happens when you try to resize the Folder Pane and provide us via the Private Message so that we can better understand.

However, if the issue recently happened after updating latest Outlook 365 version then you may revert to an earlier workable version of an Office 365 Click-to-Run as work around if it is acceptable for you.

Note: If you don’t have permission to revert version, contact your IT admin/team for further assistance.

Your patience and cooperation are highly appreciated.

Best regards,
Shyamal

I have the same issue, started last month I think. Just updated today to 2004 (Monthly Channel), same issue. It can be resized, but it only can narrow to a certain width. If you keep narrowing it, it eventually swaps to the 'minimized' option automatically.

In prior versions you could make it much narrower. The folder pane takes up too much space now

I have the same problem as of yesterday and it's very annoying. In the folders pane, the number of unread messages used to display right next to the folder. But now, they are right-aligned and it is making the folder pane too wide.

Eg. Old (good)

Inbox (25)

Sent (6)

New (bad)

Inbox                  (25)

Sent                      (5)

So, as can be seen above, the problem is the space between the folder names and the number of unread messages.

Please fix this!!

Paul

Precisely same issue here.

I have the exact same versions of Outlook 365 (16.0.12730.20144 32 bit) running on two identical laptops. Weird enough, on one laptop I can make the folder pane smaller, and on the other one I can't.

An online repair did not change anything on both laptops. On the laptop where I still can make the folder pane narrower, I had to do a complete manual removal of office (because I attempted to address the widely known search bar issue). And after newly installing, I still can make it narrower.

Just realised I was being generous. It's more like this:

Eg. Old (good)

Inbox (25)

Sent (6)

New (bad)

Inbox                                   (25)

Sent                                       (5)

Why did they change this?

Totally agreed! It is killing space for nothing!

Please give us back the option to make our folder pane smaller (regardless which search bar we want to use, by the way), so we can make wise use of our space.
