Emails to protection.outlook.com getting deferred

 

I have a number of emails outbound to office 365 users (namely xx.xx.protection.outlook.com) that are coming back as deferred

for example:

 Deferred: delivery temporarily suspended: Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=PA-GOV.mail.protection.outlook.com type=A: Host not found, try again  

If i ping that name from the exchange server it resolves to an address, no response but i expect that from business servers these days

If i do a tracert it gets as far as this before dropping off:

18    69 ms    91 ms    69 ms  ae20-0.dm2-96c-1a.ntwk.msn.net [104.44.239.3] 

I've gone to the delist ip page and tried that to see if that's what is stopping emails from getting through.

Any thoughts?

After several hours on the phone with Barracuda, they determined the dns cache on the appliance had been corrupted and not updating.  Once it was cleared and the appliance rebooted, the emails seem to have processed through.

SO i'm closing this ticket
