Change Alias Sender Name

Hi, I have a number of different alias emails on my Microsoft account, how do I change an alias sender name? currently when I sent from an alias, my main account display name shows on it, I tried to log into Outlook.com using an alias account to change the sender’s name but I could only login with my main account and when I went to settings/Mail/Sync email, there was no Email alias option listed to (manage or choose a primary alias), please advise.

Hello Guss_Q8,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

According to our test, if your network environment is normal, when you send a new email, an email address will be displayed in the area outlined in the image.

You can change this by going to Mail > Sync mail > Set default From address. This will set the address here as the default when you create a new email.

However, if your network environment is abnormal, such as using a proxy or being in a corporate environment, the part outlined in the image may not display correctly, and your default sending address setting will be ineffective.

Regardless of what you set as the default sending address, it will always send from your primary alias.

To resolve this issue, you can open Edge in privacy mode. Log in and check if it works normally.

Click the three dots () in the upper right corner of the Edge browser, then select ‘New InPrivate window’ to enter privacy mode.  If you’re using a different browser, please look for a similar feature.

Additionally, the account we tested with has a primary alias associated with an Outlook email. If you are using a third-party email, you may encounter issues when using the web version of Outlook. We recommend using an Outlook email rather than a third-party one.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

Best Regards,

Thank you for your reply.

Based on the screenshot you provided, you are using a work account rather than a personal account.

Some settings in the work account are set by the administrators in your organization, and as a member, you may not be able to change them.

Therefore, the issue you are encountering is that your organization does not allow you to send emails using an alias.

I suggest you inquire with your company or organization's IT administrator.

Hi Guss_Q8,

If you are a corporate administrator account, you should log in to Microsoft 365 here, and select Admin from the application icon in the upper left corner.

For adding aliases to your organization account, you can refer to this website. Add another email alias for a user - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
