cannot open msg files in outlook new

I was able to open .msg files (all my important stuff is saved liked that) simply by double-clicking the files and now they will not open and I get the following message, "Sorry, the file (file name) couldn't be opened. This file type requires a Microsoft 365 subscription to open. Get Microsoft 365." But I'm already using Microsoft 365 . but I guess the installed one and my subscription cannot recognize eachother or something.

I have tried all the things that were explained here who has the same problem but unfortunately did not work.

please help, I need my saved data, I need to be able to open and view them.

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the forums!

 From your description, I understand that you are unable to open msg files using new Outlook.

New Outlook is able to open msg files, you can try to right-click on the msg file and select Open with new Outlook, this is to prevent new Outlook from not being your default open program.

Drag and drop in new Outlook

Open new Outlook.

Open File Explorer.

Select a .eml, .msg, or .oft file.​​​​​​

Drag and drop the file onto the reading pane area.

Please Note: .msg and .oft files size limit is 14 MB. You won't be able to open it above that capacity either.

Also, this error message seems to be implying that you to use CLASSIC Outlook, if you have Classic Outlook in your computer, switch to Classic Outlook and things may appear different.

I have the same problem, and while I have been able to figure out how to open the .msg file in Outlook for Mac, I am unable to access the message's attachments in OneDrive.
