Hi Julie,

Thanks for your advice, however I still have the same problem.  When click on Fix Account the password window opens but I note that where my password should be there is more digits than is in my password, when I correct it by inputting the correct password and click on done a short time later, matter of seconds I get another reminder that to say the accounts settings are out of date!.  Any ideas?

Regards.

Are you using an @outlook.com email address to login to the new computer?

Are you trying to add the btinternet accounts to Windows 10 Mail?

Are you using pop3 or IMAP settings?

IMAP

Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 993 (this should be automatically populated if you tick the SSL Encryption)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password: your btinternet password

Root folder/path:

Folder separator: . (full stop)

Please do NOT enable "secure password authentication" (SPA). It's not needed when you use SSL encryption and won't work.

If your IMAP client supports it, we recommend you also set up the following folders:

  • Trash
  • Sent Items
  • Drafts

POP3

Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 995 (this should be automatically populated when you tick SSL Encryption)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password: your btinternet password

POP from folder: By default, POP will pull emails from your Inbox

SMTP

Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 465 (this may not be automatically populated on selection of SSL, so you'll need to check this)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Authentication: PLAIN

Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password: your btinternet password

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your input, I am using my btinternet.com email to log into the new computer.

My ISP is POP3.

I am trying to add my btinternet.com email addresses to the windows 10, it appears to accept them but after several seconds it comes up that the account settings are out of date.  The only way I can get the incoming emails onto the new computer is to forward them on from the old computer?

Looks like i will have to call on the Knowhow team at PC World where i bought the computer.  Thanks for your help.

Only Microsoft account addresses can be used to login to Windows.

Windows has created a Microsoft account with your BTinternet address.

The Microsoft account should already be setup in Windows 10 Mail.  It will be the login address.  That account will not receive any emails.

It would make things less confusing if you added a @outlook.com alias to your Microsoft account.  You would be able to use the @outlook.com address to login to the computer.

The BTinternet address could be removed from the Microsoft account.
